Gambardellarchitetti is an architectural atelier founded by Cherubino Gambardella in the late eighties which, over time, has been transformed into a structure inspired by the theoretical, drawing, and imaginative production of its founder. It is based in Naples but also has an office in Milan. It is a laboratory of ideas, thoughts and projects of architecture and design from small to large scale. He has created many projects of different typology, size and function with large, small and sometimes even very small budgets all marked by a line of research that has evolved in these decades aiming at a strong recognition and on spaces that always arouse an emotion in those who lives. The group, headed by Simona Ottieri Gambardella, has a flexible organization and makes use of different skills, from great consultants of recognized professionalism to promising designers to young and enthusiastic interns.

Since the same year she has been involved in design research in Gambardellarchitetti architectural laboratory, which she has been directing since 2004. Here she has coordinated projects from the inside, from the set-up, to the space for work and commerce, up to the remodulation of urban interiors. Bioarchitecture specialist since 1998.
In 1999 she was an international MIUR scholar on the innovation of languages between architecture, art and design. Since 2004 she is a PhD in Materials Engineering (16th cycle) at the Engineering Faculty of the Federico II University of Naples. Her research activity has been published on: <<Domus>>, <<Abitare>>, <<A10 annual>>, <<Yearbook Y08>>, <Ottagono>>, <<Area>>.
Her theoretical and operational reflection has been hosted on various volumes and catalogs of a national and international character. She has won awards in national and international competitions and prizes.
Cherubino Gambardella è nato a Napoli nel 1962. È architetto, professore ordinario di progettazione architettonica dal 2000 e dal 2003 insegna all’Università degli Studi della Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” dove è presidente del corso Magistrale in Architettura. Ha insegnato in diverse università italiane (Roma, Napoli, Ascoli Piceno, Venezia) e straniere come la Cornell University, il Politecnico Federale di Zurigo, la Catholic University di Washington e per l’IIT College of Architecture di Chicago.
Da sempre la sua indagine teorica si è focalizzata sulla invenzione del concetto di bellezza democratica come diritto di tutti a una bellezza non convenzionale perché ottenuta con materiali poveri, di uso comune.
Questa intuizione lo ha condotto a scrivere diversi libri di architettura.
È stato finalista nelle edizioni del 2003, 2006 e 2009 della Medaglia d’oro per l’Architettura Italiana alla Triennale di Milano. Ha più volte partecipato alla Mostra Internazionale di Architettura della Biennale di Venezia. I suoi lavori sono stati esposti in diversi musei e fondazioni europee, americane (MOMA) e asiatiche nonché pubblicati sulle più accreditate riviste internazionali di architettura quali «The Architectural Review», «Domus», «A+U architecture and urbanism», «Arquitectura Viva», «World Architecture», «The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary Architecture», «Frame», «Mark», «A10», «Detail», «Abitare», «Area», «Materia», «Ottagono», «L’architettura cronache e storia», «Modo», «Controspazio», «Metropolis», «Interior Design» di New York.
